Tribe Report - Benefits

Ed,

I experience a number of benefits from the recent series of Tribe Meetings.

Health - losing weight - near my low weight for the last 20 years / excercizing more.
Balance - Less emphasis on making money / more on enjoying life.
Relationships - More sharing of feelings / less anger and control / more friends.

I feel these benefits follow my work in Tribe - and the work of other Tribe memers who get on the hot seat and provide a laboratory in which we can all participate and learn and grow.

Thank you for sharing your process.

Wants to Participate

Hi Ed,

I was introduced to your work at the beginning of the year. I purchased your book in the spring and now find that I might be in Austin the weekend of Sept 4-6th.

I have not done a TTP workshop, however I am well versed in experiential self-development workshops taken throughout my life.

I am interested in bringing this process to my hometown of Portland, OR.

If there is a meeting prior to/after the Sept 4-6th weekend, I would love to participate.

Warm Regards,

Thank you for reaching out.

I do not have plans to host a meeting in Austin during that span.

Responsive Government

Ed:

From framework of Govopoly , how do you view an attempt like this?

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/08/can-yelp-make-government-agencies-work-better/401825/

[Yelp and the General Services Administration this week announced an agreement ... that could allow federal workers to respond directly to feedback—potentially in realtime—from frustrated users of public services.]

Always love to read your unique insights relating to business of living life.

Thanks,

Thank you for raising this issue.

Your link reads like a public relations release.

In general, the Free Competition Sector, wishing to serve customers, purposefully harvests consumer opinion as a way to find out how to serve better - while the Govopoly System, wishing to serve itself, purposefully avoids it.

For an example of Govopoly System responsiveness to feedback, see:

Wants to Know About the Future Gold Price

Sir,

In the past few days Gold has risen upto 1700 RS. though the trend and reports were saying it will go downwards. What do you expect now, where will gold settle?
In TTP we do not attempt to predict the non-existing future.

You can get a reading on what other people think about the price of gold in October - by noticing the price for October Gold Futures.

You might notice the price of October Gold keeps changing, reflecting the ever-evolving opinions about the non-existing future - of people in the ever-evolving moment of now.

Also, you might consider formulating a trading strategy that you can use to control risk in the every-evolving moment of now.

Mentoring in Process

Good evening Mr. Seykota,

It was a pleasure to meet you last week. Thank you for taking time out of your day to meet with me.

I must say, at first I was a little upset with our meeting. I came to you asking for a mentor & you spoke to me about my feelings. But when I came home last week & started asking my kids how they felt & it brought tears to my eyes. I have spent so much time chasing what I want, that I have missed part of my kid's lives.

To be honest, I still don't know how my feelings are going to help me learn how to trade, but I'm going to try & focus on understanding how the people around me are feeling so that I can learn how to be more present. That's all I can think of to write right now. Any additional guidance you can provide, would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks again for your time,

Thank you for sharing your process.

Wants a Formula for Intimacy

Dear Ed,

Thank you for posting a link associated on "TT Relationship Principles". I have a few questions on how I may be able to make use of them to become a better me.

1. Establish Rapport. Bring yourself into heart-to-heart intimacy-centric communion with your partner.

- How do you bring yourself into "heart-to-heart intimacy-centric communion with your partner"?

2. How do you raise genuine questions and issues as it may trigger difficult interactions / reactions from my partner?

3. What mechanisms or indicators may point to me towards becoming more intimacy centric apart from language?

4. How do I handle internal conflict of what I really want to say Vs. modulate my response of softening my response and becoming less demanding?

Thanks and Regards

Thank you for raising these issues.

People practice intimacy-centric relating in Tribe Meetings - so you might consider joining a Tribe.

I also present a foundation for these methods in my book, The Trading Tribe and, occasionally, in Workshops.

You can also follow along on FAQ to read reports of how other people implement the principles.

You might consider taking your feelings about <wanting a formula for intimacy> to Tribe, as an entry point.

Banking Mechanism

Hi Ed,

On August the 12th you write on FAQ:

Also, the Fed cannot raise rates, for fear that banks might get back into the lending business - and support monetary inflation.

I feel confused by this statement. I think that banks would lend less to businesses and consumers if the Federal Funds rate was higher, because the opportunity cost of not lending money would be lower.

I wonder if you can explain the mechanism as you understand it.

In any case I learn that I don´t fully understand the banking system at this moment. I wonder how many people really understand it...

Thanks,

Thank you for raising this issue.

The theory runs like this: with rates low, banks don't earn much on loans, especially after allowing for non-performing loans. Meanwhile they can gain relatively risk-free income by lending reserves back to the Fed.

As rates rise and as lending spreads increase, banks might like to increase their income by placing their reserves behind more personal and corporate loans.

In general, banks loan money to people to buy things they expect to increase in value. In a rising stock market, lenders support corporate stock buy-backs. In a rising commodities market, lenders support expanding inventories.

Training with Treats

Hi Chief,

I see that my German shepherd seems to pick up how I train her too well. Sometimes I use treats to train her to sit, down and stand up. Sometimes I use toy to do so. She listens very well, only when I have treats and toys in hand. Otherwise she ignores my requests. Somehow it makes me feel the similar feeling of curve fitting. I wonder what's your opinion about this?

Thanks,

Thank you for sharing your process and for raising this issue.

You might consider training her with another form of treat, namely: yourself; acknowledging her and showing approval with your facial expressions, body posture and voice.

If this works out, you might consider extending the method to the rest of your family.

You might consider taking your feelings about <acknowledging others physically> to Tribe.

On the Move

Hi Ed

I am in the process of moving to another State to live. I feel nervous, sad and elation all mixing together.

Nervousness is in my gut with wrenching and like taking a blow. I experience indigestion and burping. I worry about finances and leaving my frail Father, leaving cute little babies I care for now and if the next nurse will love them and if the trasition is a smooth one.

I am sad to leave family and friends. Tears form at the corner of my eyes and a lump is in my throat.

I also feel elation at the idea of new experiences and making new friends. It feels like body lightness and butterfly wings on my face.

And at last I am at peace with the decision to move out of a comfort zone. I feel calm and serene.

Thank you for sharing your process.

Unemployment and Govopoly

Hi Ed,

I notice in our area, we have very low unemployment and real state market is making new all time high.

Whatever government policies are, at least for short term are working.

Any thoughts or signs of Govopoly?

Unemployment Rate

www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf

Thank you for raising this issue.

Your chart shows the official unemployment rate, that does not include people who feel discouragement and stop looking for work. It also includes people who work in non-productive and non-tool-making jobs.

You might consider finding a chart of employment in tool-making industries or employment in manufacturing (below).

Ultimately, prosperity depends on tool making, the natural work of the free-competition sector. As the Govopoly system assimilates the free-competition sector, tool making slows and prosperity falls.

In the 39the Day, real estate prices make new highs - particularly around the seat of government. Eventually most prices rise as production falls and as people lose faith in fiat currency and scramble for hard assets.

At this moment, we have the Fed unable to contract money supply for fear of setting off a general collapse. Also, the Fed cannot raise rates, for the effect that might have on the federal deficit - and fof fear that banks might get back into the lending business - and support monetary inflation. So the Fed continues to try to hold it all together by paying banks to sit on excess reserves.

Meanwhile, a rapidly increasing regulatory culture prevents small business from competing with the Govopoly system, so we have a general atrophy of the entrepreneurial class - and those whom they employ.

Either way, you might look for assimilation to continue, for the middle class to continue to sink into poverty, for the appearance of widespread discontent, motivating various forms of bailout, and for the creation of even more fiat currency.

You might notice the new crop of politicians do not talk much about any of this - preferring to divert attention to other areas, such as menstruation and curiously clean disk drives.

From Drama to Trading

Hi Mr. Seykota,

I would like to apologize for my behavior. I see how much of a drama I was in now. Its takes a village to raise a child and to contain the drama. Recently I spend time with my dad's side of the family and it seems to mellow me out. I feel more relaxed and not high strung. I feel relaxed and at ease when meeting new people.

Thank you for sharing in my process.

I now know what I want. I work as a trading assistant in NYC.

Thanks,

Wants Parameters

Ed,

Thanks for your reply. Please feel free to post any or all or none of this on your website.

I'm still attempting to find the securities universe and screening filters used in your daily Chartbook. And also, what's the definition of "strong" and "weak"

The only screening methodology I could find on your website is the tutorial exercise #1. I have not yet set up a total stock market filter/scan to test if that is the process you follow on the daily TT Chartbook.

My interest in the screens has been piqued by some simple research that I've done. Starting about a month ago, I've kept a list of the "strong" stocks. I missed a couple of days, but for now I have been considering the entries random. I built up a list of about sixty tickers; I then looked at the return of those stocks for the year-to-date, 1, 3 and 12 months. At the trailing 12 month level, 100% of the stocks had a positive rate of return, with an average 173% and median 148%; year-to-date numbers were even better, 118% and 86%, respectively. That significantly (by many standard deviations!) outperforms any of my current screening methodologies. So it's clearly not random.

I won't trade a system where I can't replicate the rules to select and screen the trading instruments. Even if a holy grail is being posted on a daily website.....

So I'd like to enlist your help and/or the assistance of the group. I would be glad to share what I know and am doing if it would benefit others. I have no ulterior motives other than to have some enjoyment exercising my curiosity and hopefully make some more money along the way.

I do appreciate your taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Thank you for raising this issue.

Tribe Meeting Report - Extreme Advice

Dear Ed,

At our last Puerto Rico Tribe meeting we spend considerable time going through the mechanics of effective communication in relationships.

The hot seat is going through a rough patch in his relationship and is not sure how to handle the situation. Chief invites the Tribe to give him advice and all hell breaks loose. The Tribe gets hooked on giving advice almost as much as the Tribe member in the hot seat gets hooked on getting it.

At first giving advice feels right. It feels like I am helping out. However, as the Tribe digs deeper into the issues in the Tribe members' relationships and his patterns, the advice seems more and more off the mark. I start to feel guilty about giving it; I see that my advice may be more aligned with hot seats dramas than the right livelihood. This process is a big wake up call for me. It not only shows me the futility of giving advice but also receiving it.

The next day we present our Lab reports. Everyone does a great job on the last presentation. I feel very proud to be part of the group and to experience the process. We support each other, give and receive tons of feedback and we accomplish our goals.

Thanks Ed and Tribe for a wonderful experience and for the opportunity to learn from and alongside you.

Sincerely,

Thank you for sharing your process and for documenting the meeting.

Tribe Report

Ed,

5 members present. 1 absent (sick wife and son). Another member recently moved to <city> will be joining shortly.

Before Tribe we have a discussion about how we want to change our process. We encourage people to follow the hot seat-> rocks process but some people can't or won't do it. Some like to vent or to have a sympathetic hearing for their problems. We decide to time box discussions so they do not drag on without resolution for too long.

We start at 7:30pm. After drumming, which goes well - I discover the secret to good drumming: 'swing' and feel quite excited about this - we check in and do exercises.

Member #6 is hot with problems dealing with people at his new job. He asks for help and people belittle him. He feels bad. At the high point of the hot seat he recalls his step father making vague requests of him and getting annoyed when he 'fails' to do the right thing. His mother donates a strategy of "don't worry, put up with it, he doesn't mean it". He sees also his mother puts up with step father's behavior for a long time and then leaves. We reenact this and HS feels it.

We suggest some new strategies and HS likes the one which goes "use your heart rock to feel what the other person wants; for example usually they want to see you are trying not just asking them helplessly to solve the problem, so show what you have done and what you think is the likely answer". He has his Aunt (I think) donate the new strategy and he tries it out and feels it works.

HS releases us from our roles and thanks us.

On checkout people feel happy with the process.

Member #7 feels frustrated; her partner is gun shy from previous failed relationships and a specific (medical) challenge they face which he feels may torpedo the relationship eventually and he does not want to get married yet. She feels embarrassed as they has told various people she is getting engaged, some of whom do not like her partner and may take the opportunity to say "I told you so". She still plans to move to be with him but intends to leave if they do not get engaged within a certain time, which may require resolving the medical issue. She talks about the discussions they have had and the efforts they have made to resolve the issue. She acknowledges that she does not know for sure how she would deal with the medical issue remaining permanently, so she cannot guarantee she would never leave him. She concludes this is 'life' not a rock and says she is happy to have gotten it off her chest.

Members #2 and #3 are not hot about anything.

Member #1 reports on his pilates training. He is doing his pilates regularly for 40 minutes each morning. Asked how much it is helping he says there has been no improvement in his sciatica but he believes it will improve his "core" and will produce results. Member #7 asks how long he intends to persist if it does not produce results and he replies he feels confident it will produce results. He has no plans to see a physiotherapist. Member #7 suggests deadlifts will increase core strength much faster and more effectively than pilates. Others agree with this point. Member #1 gets details about deadlifts.

There being no other hot issues we close the meeting at 10pm with a happy mood.

Thank you for sharing your process and for documenting your meeting.
