Insufficient / Impossible / Hunger
Dear Ed,
I am an investment manager here in Dublin, Ireland, and I currently
have two small mandates from two families here in Ireland.
Performance has been stellar using a long only concentrated strategy, however, the fee income generated is not sufficient to maintain my family.
Furthermore, the fact that I was out of the market in September by
reducing exposure prior to the spike in volatility, they are
negotiating reducing my fee … yet it Is part of my default strategy.
I have traded options for my personal account from August 18 – Oct 18
and returned 32.24% for the period using long / short. I
love markets, believe I have an edge over the majority of the
participants, however, Ireland is impossible to secure sufficient equity capital to scale a business.
I understand you may receive many emails and I would love
to hear your thoughts on my path to take, I have 2 young children and I am hungry. Investment management firms in Ireland do not perform and are essentially index trackers.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Long Only
Hello Ed,
Thanks a lot for giving the opportunity to ask you questions and I
really appreciate it. Could you please let me know your thoughts on the
following and if any of it is not according to the FAQ rules please
ignore them.
1. Long-only trend following system. Is this mean trading from short side of the market is as good as long side.
2. I saw the entry on Heating Oil on 13th Feb in long only trend
following chart and trying to understand how the sell stop moved so
close to the trade and I was surprised and thinking.
3. Do you use volume information for the trades.
I really appreciate your time and if you don't like to answer them
please ignore my email. Thanks a lot for your valuable time and effort
to share your wealth of knowledge which helps world a better place for
everyone.
Thanks and Regards,
|
Thank you for raising these issues.
1. Long-only trading means you trade only from the long side.
2. Sell stops tend to rise during the course of a trade.
3. Volume informs the decision about which instruments to trade.

Wants Funding
Hello Ed Seykota!
I am 33 years old ... I've been going to write you a letter and now it's time.
Over the past 8 years, I have studied all possible literature and
primary sources, concerning practices and methods of prolonging life,
numerous drugs of artificial and natural origin, capable of effectively
treating cancer, able to prolong life.
I have visited many scientific institutions and laboratories dealing
indirectly or directly with this and other problems of humanity.
Learned lifestyle and many other the twists and turns dozen long-livers
across Russia, Asia and Eastern Europe. During this time, clear views
were formed on the solution of these problems - problems that concern
each of us, regardless of nationality, religion, political views or
social status.
Dear Ed Seykota! I ask you to teach me
how to trade in the foreign exchange and commodity markets, so that I
can earn the money for which I was able to create research institutes
with the latest science and technology, to gather the best of the best
scientists from around the world, who will study in the form of
large-scale research, the possibility of extending human life,
improving the quality of life, complete cure of childhood diseases and
the scourge of the modern world - cancer, HIV, influenza and others.
It may seem I set myself too high and unattainable goals, but as said,
O. de Balzac: "He who seeks millions, very rarely finds them, but who
do not seek finds ever!". Only in our case, I am looking for solutions
to a variety of problems, which I wrote a little above. For me it's the
meaning of life and I will achieve this goal in any way, this is my
character.
Returning to the question of children. For me, children are the meaning
of life, that's all of ours. Unfortunately, there is a huge number of
children's diseases, because of which children die in childhood or lead
a bad life.
Established institutions will be engaged in search of means for the
complete eradication of all childhood diseases. Just imagine how many
lives you can save and give them what we had.
I want to say is the fact that I have no problem to enrich themselves
at your expense, in my life, I've been getting a lot accomplished, and
I have enough money for a comfortable life, but not enough to give it
purpose.
The more that is on the scales the lives of our friends and relatives.
I know I can change the world, make it better. A world in which
everyone can live a long and fulfilling life. That is why I will be
glad and grateful to you for absolutely any help that you can give to
make my words in this letter a reality.
Also, if you do not mind, I would like to name the institutions created in your honor (for example, Rogers pharmaceutical company) as a person who, despite his position, thinking about the future of all mankind.
I'm not a writer, it is beautiful to express thoughts is not my forte,
but I tried briefly to write the letter. After all, I understand that
you are a very busy person and do not want to take a lot of your time.
Help me, please, together we can make the world a better place!
Until the end of my days I will be grateful to you and your family for
trusting me, that you will render me and I will thank you with the same
kindness and that I will be able to get answers and concrete solutions
to the above questions and problems.
I hope you will receive and read this letter!
Thank you in advance! I wish you and all who are dear to you good health, long and very long life and simple human happiness!
If you decide to respond to my letter and request, to learn more, to
talk, please email me. Oh. It will be a great honor for me!
P. S. Summing up, I want to emphasize the importance of research in
these areas. Regardless of whether you help me or not, please, you have
all the possibilities for this, you will be able to do everything
yourself and organize, do not put it aside. I believe in you and in
your good deeds!

Thank you for raising this issue.

colleagues. Perhaps you forgot to edit your form letter before
sending it to me.

Tribe Meeting
Report
Dear Sir,
Please find the Mumbai Tribe Meeting Report for our meeting on 14th
February 2019 below:
We begin the meeting with drumming and continue to check in.
Check In
TM1(I) : I share that I feel anger
towards my parents. With my Father, the anger is around him not being
particular about money and deals, a trait I feel I share. With my
Mother, I feel a mix of anger and sadness after she is diagnosed when
diabetes. I recall feeling angry at her for living a sedentary
lifestyle. I also share that I am attracted to someone I meet and am
looking forward to dating, though my previous dating experiences are
train wrecks. I am ready to take the hotseat.
TM2: He shares that he takes a break for 2 days after a headache that lasts
around a week. He realizes the importance of good health. He has mixed
feelings after a client allocates to him a large sum of money. He is
unsure of the size and also feels that the client can push him (TM3) to
override to his own systems.
TM3: He shares that he is worried
about his weight, and also feels like he has to lose
around 10 Kgs. He also has mixed feelings after learning that his
brother who is 3 years elder to him weighs quite a bit less than TM
does.
TM4: He is ready to take the hotseat today after getting clearance from
the Doctor. He shares that work is OK and that some of the processes
that the new Portfolio Manager is implementing are good. TM4 is also missing his fiancé
who is in a foreign country, completing her education. He elects to
take the Hotseat.
We continue to the hotseats.
Hotseats
Hotseat 1
TM4 takes the hotseat with TM1 as the Process Manger.
We start with a bit of
story telling, where TM4 shares about the new processes at
work. He is happy about the passive partner now becoming the Portfolio
Manager and the processes his is implementing though TM4 is not liking
how he (Portfolio Manager) is rather indirect in his communication. TM4
shares more of the story as he keeps rubbing his right thumb, index
finger and forefinger. He moves his head from left to right
and smiles. I freeze him and test for willingness. TM4 wishes to
continue. He swirls his
tongue around his mouth and moves his head and he twitches his thighs.
As we progress, TM4 starts moving his lower jaw. I freeze
him again and he shares that he recalls seeing an image of Jim Carrey.
I ask him whether he wishes to continue on the hotseat and he agrees.
As we progress, he feels a shooting pain in his skull.
He then starts to move his right arm and also feels some pain in his
right shoulder . He has a realisation that he is not paying attention
to his recovery. He also shares that he begins projects with great
gusto but does not focus on finishing them well. We end the ho
Hotseat Check Out
In the checkout, the other tribe members share that we are
happy to see TM4 take the HS after more than a year. I feel that TM4
ends the process due to physical exhaustion than due to unwillingness.
The other tribe members also share their concern about TM4 hurting his
right hand and shoulder. HS4 feels grateful.
Hotseat 2
TM1(I) take the hotseat with TM3 as the PM. I bring my relationship
issues to the HS and also share that I am attracted to someone I meet.
I start with some story telling and PM catches a form. I make a face
and PM urges me to make that face. I blurt out that I have feelings of
shame and "who'd date me?" as we progress with the hotseat, I have a thought that my Mother does not
want me to date. PM asks me how I feel about it and I
respond by saying "to hell with it" and then smile. I share that I feel
like putting this off and working on it in the next meeting. I grunt
and heave as I feel a pressure on my forehead. PM & Tribe cheer
me on as I focus on the lock on my forehead. Some of it moves and I
feel energy on down my spine and on the center of my head. I feel a
tender spot on the middle of my spine and notice I lock it as the
energy passes thru it. As I progress, I am confused at the number of
things I feel. I feel a tight spot on my right ankle and the pain on my
forehead. I elect to end the process.
Hotseat Check Out
TM4 feels that this is not a great process. He feels that while trust
the Tribe and I am willing, I
use words and descriptions as a reflex to avoid feeling.
TM2 feels that this is a good process. TM3(PM) feels that at during the
HS, he feels like I am holding back a lot of anger. I agree with TM4
& TM3s assessment. I do feel guilty & bad
about getting angry at others.
After 2 hotseats, we elect to end to meeting.
Meeting Check Out
We are all grateful that we are meeting. Early in the day, we all have
some doubts about making it to the meeting and all 4 wanting to put it
off to later. I feel grateful tot the Tribe but I feel
awkward and weird sharing my gratefulness with the Tribe.
Regards,
|
Thank
you for sharing your process and for documenting your meeting.
You show skill in drawing out forms and in freezing them.
At that point, you might consider engaging the Rocks process to locate
a critical event and to practice resolving it through role playing with
the Heart Rock.
This identifies and resolves the deeper issues.
If you heat someone up and then don't resolve his underlying issues,
you risk sending him home hot - all set and ready to resolve his
feelings in the same old dramatic way.
If you start capitalizing opportunities for deep healing, you might
find Tribe members developing more enthusiasm about attending meetings
and participating fully.
In the case of your feeling your mother judging you about dating,
I notice you shrug, swear, smile, put it off and eventually
elect to terminate the process.
You might consider studying, mastering and implementing the Rocks
Process and then taking your feelings about <motivating
others>
to Tribe as entry points.
You might find this excites, invigorates and motivates your Tribe.

Hi Ed,
I’m much slower now due to worse lower back pain. I am on medication
and doing more exercise per day to recover from back pain. I
need to recover so I can go out and find a job. My physical therapist

Tribe Meeting
Report
Dear Ed,
I want to share my recent Tribe meeting experience. I feel deep
gratitude for my Tribe leader for holding the meeting, and the Tribe’s
willingness to fully experience their feelings, and help me experience
mine. A new member prepares by reading your Trading Tribe book and
bravely journeys deep into his feelings right away. I admire his
courage.
I notice immediate and positive changes surrounding the Tribe meeting.
I feel surprise with my new, strong desire to connect. I make several
new friends. I expand my support group. I attend more meetings and
introduce myself to more people in the last two weeks than I have in
the past two years. I feel more alert and active, and less in a passive
trance. Prior to the tribe meeting, I have trouble sleeping. After,
despite being away from home on an uncomfortable couch, I experience a
deep, satisfying sleep.
I realize I cover up mild feelings with strong and scary feelings of
worry. I entrain my feelings of worry as I predict end-of-the-world,
worst-case outcomes for minor events. While I worry, my head shakes, my
heart pumps heavily and I cannot focus. Ironically, I find comfort in
worry. I accept worry, and may even have an addiction to worry. This
helps me medicate less dramatic, everyday feelings of disappointment
and guilt from failing to follow-through on important, non-urgent
work.
I carry the weight of my worry on my back like Atlas. I actively seek
out new sources of worry to make the load heavier. I brood and obsess
over my worries. This helps me avoid a deep issue: I get closer to
right livelihood, and never fully there.
Through prior tribe work, I identify deeply satisfying work I truly
love; yet, I timidly wade into my work. I fear fully diving into the
process of improving the quality of life on this planet by serving more
people with my special talents. I feel doubt. I feel fear. I fear not
being good enough. Perhaps, I also fear success. Mostly, I fear messing
up, and getting into a lot of trouble for messing up.
Thank you,
|
Thank
you sharing your process and your willingness to do the work - and for
documenting your Tribe meeting.

Ed for
Precedent
Mr. Seykota,
Since you know so much about how government policies affect the
economy, why haven't you run for any public office?
You
could have used your expertise to influence public policy instead of
the yahoos running the government that we currently have (and have had
for several decades now).
I look forward to your response.
Thank You,
|
Thank
you for raising this issue.
I
recall, back in the day, wanting to fix the system, running for school
board and losing by about
1/2
percent - likely a good result for the school board and for me too.
My work with TTP brings me to the point of observing and accepting and
riding trends. Nothing about fixing things.
If I get into a fix-it mood, I have plenty of work I can do myself.
I feel I lead best by example; I might make a better precedent
than a
president.

Measuring the
Conscious Mind
Hi Ed
I hope you are well
Recently
I have had lots of interesting pathways opening up between my CM and my
unconscious mind with many Tribe meetings and deep discussions. I have
found that listening to the speakings of J Krishnamurti on youtube
offers some very clever insights to assist in Tribe and other things.
A
very nice example was that if we feel someone has hurt us or let us
down in some manner, this can be reframed by the understanding that
this is in fact being caused by own expectations not being met.
This leads to more understanding that not hoping or expecting anyone to
behave in any specific way is a better path.
One
humourous "bug" on your webpage was uncovered while I was listening to
it with Mozilla voice web page reader, it spoke this extract
in
this way:
Centimetres
also connect in their own way. They connect through the Collective
Consciousness, that contains language, technology and know how.
Dictionaries,
libraries and the Internet store the Collective
Consciousness. For example, much of the Collective Consciousness about
trading now appears on (the) Internet.
http://www.seykota.com/tribe/tt_process/index.htm
I noticed that PW was read correctly as "pee double you" and not as
place of worship or per week.
Wondering if you might consider clicking edit find CM and replace all
with conscious mind, or instead
you might leave it as it is so we all become familiar with a deeper
understanding of our centimetre.
I trust this amuses you a little and thank you again for your kind
assistance with wind turbine calculations.
Regards
|
Thank
you for sharing your process and for suggesting the centimetre as the
default unit of measure for the conscious mind.

Wants to
Access Chart List
Hi Ed:
I've been pondering how to answer your question [about how to improve
the charts] over the last few days.
I've basically been using it to compare it to my scans of stocks that
are likely to be high momentum stocks.
I especially find your site of interest when many stocks on the list
change at the same time. I also mark on my charting package
when the stocks appear on the stock list and when they fall off of it.
I basically input the stock list into a spreadsheet manually everyday
as shown below. If you have a way to make a running list like
this as a text or *.csv file that would be helpful.
|
Thank
you for helping imporve the site with your suggestion.
I now have a Chartbook
Upgrade on line with an ASCII list of strong and weak stock
names.

Consistent Results
Hi Ed,
I’ve been trading for a while now and I am struggling to form a plan
that allows me to create consistent
results in the markets, I figured learning from those who
have made it possible to become successful traders, would be the best
way for me to learn something, would it be possible to get some advice
from you?
Or would you suggest anything I could do to help me become the trader I
want to become? Thanks for your time,
|
Thank
you for sharing your process.
You might consider the possibility that profitability and consistency
may have an inverse relationship.
You might consider taking your feelings about <risk> to

Electrifying
AHA
AHA--thank you, now I think I understand! I hadn’t thought of my
grandfather’s farm in many years but that didn’t make the farm a
passing aha. However, the reason why the cows never tried to escape by
simply walking through the weak looking wires became a passing aha for
me moments after I first touched the electric fence!
As I write this note I notice the broken Essentials card on my
desk. After experiencing “compelled”, the sudden urge to
immediately request a replacement has seemed to vanish. I plan on
ordering a card when I get a Round Tuit …
Thanks again,

Wants
30-Minute Talk
Dear Ed -
Thanks for your answer.
So, yes, I used to be a New Keynesian economist. Besides working in
NYC, I taught at NYU and other schools.
As of now, I am only a trader. I trade for a living. I work at [Firm]
as a trader for their clients and for my own money. And I offer one
course at [School]. There, I teach students how to trade future markets
and CFDs.
Possibly because I loved your site, your Trading Tribe and the
interview you gave for the market wizards book, I would like to invite
you to talk to my students for 30 minutes on whatever you want
regarding trading: stops, the whipsaw song (lots of important stuff
there) whatever.
I am sure that whatever you pick and choose will be a good idea because
you are very bright. And I love to have bright people in my class.
Of course, I can also tell students to read your book. This is not a
problem. However, I don't teach Macroeconomics in this course. Just a
little about Central Bank beahavior and interest rates. The core of
this course is trading, risk margin calls, forex, technical indicators.
I just finished the syllabus for this term that starts in one week and
I am attaching just for you to take a look.
Once again I would be very pleased to have you as a guest speaker in my
course.
Cheers,
PS: I am CC ... my partner and my husband.
|
Thank
you for extending me this invitation.
I don't know how to have a meaningful interchange with a room full of
students in 30 minutes - by phone to another country.
I might consider a series of 30-minute sessions say, once per
week for five weeks, with me working with one or two students
in front of the class.
They would commit to accomplishing something and receiving support from
me and from other classmates.

Passing Aha
I notice, repeatedly, there are no recent entries to FAQ.
I wonder if the Trading Tribe and FAQ have become just another passing
AHA for Ed.
FAQ becomes a passing AHA for me—I value the lessons I've learned here
about trading and about myself but I no longer check for new entries, I
do not think about checking for new entries nor do I seem to remember I
ever even read FAQ.
I outline a new trading system. To ensure the new system
components correspond with key trading principles, I grab the
Essentials card from my wallet and notice the card has cracked in half.
I feel compelled to procure a replacement card even though I can recite
the six principles on the card by heart. For some unknown reason, the
card means something more to me than a simple memory aid. I ponder this
feeling of “compelled” but I cannot make sense of it. I do my best to
experience the feeling of “compelled”.
I find the instructions for obtaining a new card on your website. I
notice more than years’ worth of new FAQ! I find myself
checking your site for additional new FAQ entries. FAQ is no
longer a passing AHA for me.
Ed, if FAQ is no longer a passing AHA for me, was it ever a passing
AHA? Perhaps I have an underdeveloped understanding of “passing AHA”.
Would you consider sharing your idea of a passing AHA with FAQ?
Thank you for continuing FAQ.
Sincerely,
|
Thank
you for sharing your process and for raising the issue of
<passing aha>.
You might like to consider the process of discounting in the sense of
"taking some new information into account." in German, we
have it in one word, mitberücksichtigen.
For example, your grocer might discount a loaf of bread after
a week on the shelf and
offer it at a lower price. Traders might discount a drought
and bid the price of grain higher.
The aha occurs in the moment of awareness and characterizes the feeling
of discount.
If someone points out to you that you have your fly open, the
information comes as a sudden flash of insight (and perhaps
embarrassment) and you
discount
the
information
by raising your zipper. Aha !
Once you discount the information, the excitement disappears and the
aha passes. The process has similarities to learning something new.
Some
discounts, like in the zipper story, occur quickly; others, such in
grain story grain may take longer, and occur as a series of rolling
ahas.
Ahas sometimes occur in phases: awareness; denial; anger; fear;
bargaining; acceptance; boredom.
TTP
has some new information about how to organize the process of personal
growth. As such, TTP has its own AHA cycle.
I expect
it, eventually, to pass.
In this moment of now, I continue to enjoy experiencing the Aha.

|
Grain
Markets, Zippers and Bread
all have something in common
