Trading Tribe Open

Risk Management

Hi Ed,

I know you have spoken before about the amount that one should use to speculate (ie 10% of liquid net worth and risk only one 1% of that 10%). I think that is a very sound rule.

However, if you are a portfolio manager at a hedge fund or similar institution, how would you apply those rules? When managing other people's money is there a comfortable amount or is the emotional involvement taken out of the equation as it is not "your own" money as it were?

Or would you count the amount you are allocated by the company (say 100m) as your "liquid net worth" and risk only 10%(10m) of that at a time with a 1%(100k) of that 10%(10m) bet size.

Very interested to hear your thoughts.

I rarely tell people what they "should" do.

You might consider setting your risk per trade and your total portfolio risk at levels you can handle; somewhere between too boring and too scary.

You can run back tests to estimate the volatility that associates with different values for risk.

may differ from the risk
you can actually handle.

Thanks and Disappointment

Ed,

Rest well my friend ... we don't live forever!

You have given us so much and so thankful for all that you have shared.

I remember leaving a blind voicemail on your Incline phone somewhere back in 1990 or something and you actually called me back.

I am forever in debt for the wisdom you have shared with all of us over all these years ... im very disappointed i never joined a tribe or attended a workshop but even then you have given me so much.

A Few Questions

Hi Ed,

It's funny that my email to you bounced and yet now I receive an email from you.

I have a few questions such as:

1) how successful is the TTP process at making permanent change?

2) is there a Tribe meeting near me, Vancouver BC.

3) is the underfred network the collective unconscious?

4) is there a book on how to create a robust system or can you suggest one?

5) I think I know too much about trading and investing and overcomplicate things. I also have bad habits as a result. How do I develop new habits and forget what I know?
