Wants a Quick Review

Dear Ed,

I recently read your chapter in the Jack Schwager book and your programming approach intrigued me.

I've been making an automated trading system myself on the Nasdaq-100 (QQQ) and would love to get some feedback from an experienced trader.

I'm currently at a 23% average yearly return (1998-2023), so there is a lot of room for improvement.

Let me know if I can send you my setup for a quick review.

Greeting from Belgium,

Thank you for reaching out about your trading.

I wonder what you mean by a quick review and how come you might prefer that kind to a more comprehensive review.

In any event, you might consider preparing a daily chart showing the equity of an actual account under your management.

Wants Imformation on Trading

Hey Ed,

I'm a brand new trader. I've heard a lot about your tremendous success in trading, and it is inspirational.

I have seen your essentials on your website, but I was wondering where you recommend someone like me starts from.

I have very basic knowledge of trading, and it's hard to find any good advice out there. A lot of people are scheming, scamming, and spreading lies and misinformation, and I want real information to help me understand things better.

I am not highly educated although I do understand that emotional intelligence in trading tends to be even more important than the intellectual.

The thing I struggle most with is understanding what I'm looking for when I see a chart.

I don't really know how to analyze price data and price movements. The only things ive been basing my trades off of is if the chart is going from bottom left to top right (then i go long) and if its top left to bottom right then i go short.

I just started getting into options, but again I don't have much basis for placing trades and making decisions.

Please help give some insight that I can use as a good foundation. I'm seeking things to look for that can help me to make a decision and/or to help solidify a decision.

Really looking forward to your response,
Thank you for sharing your process.

You seem to have a pretty good grasp on how to identify a trend.

To get some sense for actual trading, you might consider going over some historical charts and simulating your trading at different bet-size levels and notice how much heat you feel you can handle.

You can find more essential information by looking within yourself.

You might consider reaching out to a Tribe in your area.

Difference in CAGR

Hi Ed,

Thanks for making this available. I’m really pleased to have coded my first trading system. As said in the subject my code matches both the 150/15 and the 325/85 runs.

However, I still can’t match the benchmark of 10% ACAGR over the same time period.

I noticed you worked out a 15% ICAGR for the benchmark. From that I worked out a ACAGR of 16.18%.

I checked my formulas against the document you provided in ‘Ressources’ but I still can’t find my error.

I’m obviously missing out on something simple and would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

Will code the S/R system soon.

Thanks again,

Best regards,
Thank you for sharing your findings.

I wonder if you can send me the URL to the FAQ page with the issue.

Wants to Trade for a Hedge Fund

Hello Ed Seykota,

Do hedge funds in general invest in individual profitable traders?

I am a Forex trader looking for funds to work with, do you know any?

Here is more information:
Prop trading was my first destiny and now I want to take it to the next level.

I am a Forex trader and have managed $100,000 in capital from the prop firm "Name." Due to the cessation of business operations by My Forex Fund (due to legal issues in the USA), I am seeking a partnership with a fund or private investors.

With a 1% risk per trade (an average of 9 trades per month), I have achieved a return of 78.2% since the beginning of the year, marking my first profitable year. I have been trading since 2019 and have a track record (verifiable transactions) since April 2021.

Do you know anyone who could be interested?

Best regards,

Thank you for asking about securing employment with a hedge fund.

You might consider preparing a graph of the equity in an account you manage, preferably for three years or more.

You might also compute your CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) and your Maximum Drawdown (Largest Peak-to-Trough on a Daily Chart) .

If your CAGR/DD ratio exceeds 30% you can likely find work with a hedge fund.  If it exceeds 50% you might can start your own fund.

Successful Detox

Ed,

I hope you are doing well.

I would like to provide an update. When I met you in 2019 and attended a few Tribe meetings, I opened up about my use of antidepressants.

You taught me to research the half life of the medication I was using. This gave me some a-ha moments that helped me to set up a tapering plan.

It was brutal but with the help of understanding decay rates I was able to find a rate of tapering that balanced withdrawal pain with maintaining decent daily mental functionality at work ext.

The tapering lasted for close to two years. Thankfully it has been more than a year since my last dose. And I suspect it will stay that way.

I have learned that our body comes with everything it needs to amp up and down every chemical it produces through emotional self regulation.

My responsibility now is to keep growing my understanding of myself, who I am and what I need to operate. How to relate and respond to people, things and stimuli that act upon and around me.

Thank you for that short, simple and pointed question: "Do you know what the half life of your medication is?"

Best
Thank you for checking in and for sharing your process.

Hesitation

Hello Ed,

I recall that I begin reading FAQ's about 10 years ago, and I hesitate sending you an e-mail because of my low English skills.

Now I feel grateful to you and want to express my feeling to you.

I sincerely wish you good health.

Thank you :)

Thank you for reaching out to me and for sharing your feelings.

Breathwork

Hi Ed,

As I was going through your website, I ended up on the breath work site and read the recommended reading on The Adventure of Self Discovery.

Very fascinating!

Do you have any upcoming in person breath work exercises? Or do you recommend anyone in Portland, Oregon that has experience with it?

Thank you for all the information you put up on your site!

Thank you for asking about Breathwork.

You can likely find practitioners in your area.

Occasionally, I host a 3-day Breathwork at my ranch in Bastrop, TX.

Tribe Breathwork differs from Holotropic Breathwork in that we purposefully create and share feelings (sensory analogues) of our situations prior to the breathing.

Feelings seem to connect conscious and sub-conscious processes and as such can help consciously direct and interpret subconscious learnings.

Wants a Mentor

Hey Ed,

I found you in a book I’m currently reading (Market Wizards by Jack Schwager).

I’m reaching out because I’m in search of a mentor or someone who can give me educational recommendations to really step up my trading.

You happen to teach or have any courses ? Or maybe you know someone who does teach in the options space ? Any recommendation would be really appreciated and I’m glad I found your info.

Just trying to make things happen for my family and I’m obsessed with trading but really could use some guidance. Thank you and hope you are doing wonderful.

Look forward to hear from you,
Thank you for asking about a mentor.

You might consider that skill at trading comes from studying the markets and also from studying yourself.

You can find lots of information on-line about the mechanics of trading: entering orders; building systems; identifying patterns; etc.

You might consider attending Tribe meetings to learn about yourself: persistence; risk tolerance; patience; etc.
